Obituary for Barbara Batholomay (Atkinson)
Barbara Bartholomay
September 25, 1923 - February 20, 2022
State College , Pennsylvania - Barbara (Atkinson) Bartholomay, 98 of State College gracefully spread her wings to fly home to the Lord on Sunday February 20, 2022. Born September 25, 1923 in Forest City, PA to the late Richard and Jessie Atkinson she was united in marriage to the late Thomas M Bartholomay in June of 1946. Together they grew their family with three children, She became widowed in 1970 and returned to the United States from Africa, where they were stationed, and settled in State College. She then enjoyed her work at Jostens and remained employed there until her retirement in 1988. She most enjoyed her time traveling with friends around the world, serving the Lord as a member of the Calvary Church after the closure of the State College Christian Church. She was a avid reader and had an interest in lighthouses from all around the world. She was a member of a water aerobics group well into her 90's and could often be found at the Waffle Shop for breakfast or lunch almost daily.
Barbara is survived by two children, Thomas Bartholomay Jr and wife Lavonne of Florida, Ruth Forkner and husband James of State College; six grandchildren, Garry Simmons and wife Jennifer of Texas, Sarah Maile and husband Steve of Florida, Barbara Elmore and husband Jason of Texas, Caleb Bartholomay and wife Erin of New York, Jacob Bartholomay of Pittsburgh, PA and Thomas Bellis and wife Jen of Alexandria, PA; nine great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sara Kutcher, Alexandria Piekarski, Tony and Emerson Maile, Aubrey, Holly, and Allison Elmore, , Parker and Steel Bartholomay, Cooper and Kenzie Bellis, as well as several life-long friends who were more like family. She is preceded in death by daughter Jane Simmons. Her selflessness, kindness, her wit and her sense of humor left a lasting impression on so many and she will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
As per Barbara's wishes there will be no services and a small family celebration of life will be arranged in the spring.
