Darla J. (Irwin) Bressler, “Jeanie,” 64, of Bloomsburg and formerly of Curwensville died on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at her residence.
Born on October 14, 1953 in Topeka, Kansas, she was the daughter of Gordon L. Irwin and the late Julia A.(Hooten) Irwin.
Mrs. Bressler possessed a B.S. in both Secondary Education and Library Science, a M.Ed. in Reading Education, and a M.S. in Library Science, all from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Bressler was retired after more than 16 years as the Education Librarian at Bloomsburg University Andruss Library, where she served as the liaison to the programs of Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Educational Studies and Secondary Education, Exceptionality Programs, and Developmental Studies. Prior to that, she was the Coordinator of the Educational Resources Center at Western Kentucky University.
She is survived by her former spouse, Allen G. Bressler of Curwensville, and her three children, David G. Bressler of Winburne, Anita L. Bressler of Clearfield, and Kelly J. Bressler of Curwensville. Also surviving are a sister, Marie A. (Irwin) Sanner of Howard, and a brother, Larry L. Irwin of Georgia; a nephew, Corey Wilkinson and his wife Tracy of Port Matilda; two nieces, Emily and Laura Sanner of Howard; and two great nephews, Connor and Joshua Wilkinson.
Darla had countless recognitions and accomplishments throughout her career, but the one she was most passionate about was her development of the Bloomsburg University Juvenile Collection. A vibrant, important collection of fiction and non-fiction books for children and young adults, it is heavily used by education students and members of the University community.
Family and friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to her beloved Juvenile Collection through the Bloomsburg University Foundation either online, , or by mail.
