Dixie L. Smith, 75, DuBois, passed away on May 3, 2018, in DuBois after a long fight against cancer. Dixie bred, groomed, showed and trained dogs, including therapy dogs that she took to visit nursing home residents. Every year, she looked forward to vacation in Canada, where she enjoyed books and boats, sun on the rocks, coffee and family. She had retired from Equimeter, and before that supported her husband in Germany serving the military. Born on Jan. 27, 1943, in Reynoldsville, she was a daughter of the late Dessie and Florence Engle. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Don Smith. She is also survived by her son, Kent (Linda) Smith of Luthersburg; her daughter, Heather (Greg) Stanko, of Saegertown; a sister, Linda Bohlman, of Reynoldsville; a brother, Gary (Gina) Lamb, of DuBois; and five grandchildren, David, Connor and Ian Smith; Carissa and Danielle Stanko; and her beloved dog, Sassy. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 11, at Christ Lutheran Church, 875 Sunflower Drive, DuBois. Memorial donations may be made to Hahne Regional Cancer Center in DuBois.
