Obituary for Earl Altemose

Earl Ray Altemose, 89, of Brockway, PA went home to be with his Lord on October 20, 2021.

He was born October 14, 1932 in the village of Clearfield (Nazareth, PA) to the late Vincent O. and Mae C. (Bill) Altemose. He was happily married for 68 years to Shirley Suzanne (Jacobs) Altemose, she survives. He is also survived by his siblings, Sherwood (Jane) Altemose, Eileen (Warren) Rohn of Nazareth, PA and Curtis Altemose of Bath, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Vincent Altemose of Campbell, NY.

Earl graduated from Nazareth High School in 1950 and Penn State University in 1958 where he obtained a degree in ceramic engineering. This degree landed him a job for 32 years at Brockway Glass where he finished his career as head of the production staff.

Earl’s greatest joys were his family, son Craig E. Altemose (Celia Rainville) of State College, PA and daughter Susan K. Altemose of Brockway, PA; grandchildren Christopher (Julie) Altemose, Stephanie (Matt) Douglas, Elissa (Clint) Salada, Ryan (Martene) Rhed, Seth (Rachel) Rhed, Jared Read and Blake (Tim Yapp) Read; great grandchildren Kelsey Altemose, Taylor Altemose, Vincent Douglas, Eliza Douglas, Kellen Salada, Spencer Rhed, Lilah Rhed, Hudson Rhed and Harrison Rhed; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Earl proudly served his country in the 3rd Armored Division of the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the Korean War. He served his community in many ways; on the board of the Session, Trustees, Ruling Elder and Breakfast Class Sunday School Teacher of the Brockway Presbyterian Church of which he was a member. He also sang in the church choir for many years as well as being part of the Entertainers and later singing with the Village Voices. He was on the board of the Brockway Mengle Memorial Library and Brockway Ambulance Association. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. (International Order of Odd Fellows), 50 plus year member of the Brockway American Legion Post 95, the St. Mary's Moose, DuBois VFW & the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club of NY. He coached Brockway little league, was president of the Rock Shanty Hunting Club and was very involved in the Toby Creek Watershed Association.

Earl loved spending time in the woods hunting, fishing, boating on Kinzua Dam and just relaxing at his camp (Seven Oaks) with his wife, family and friends. Everyone would commonly see Earl outside of his home doing yard work, maintenance and repairs. Earl and his wife Shirl were accomplished dancers and would light up every room. His love and tradition of Penn State football has trickled down to the great grandchildren and has brought our family many great memories that we will always cherish.

We will be gathering for a memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Earl Altemose at the Brockway Presbyterian Church (817 Main Street, Brockway, PA 15824) on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
