Obituary for Merlin Loomis Sr.
On March 14, 2022, Rev. Merlin R. Loomis, Sr., 86 of DuBois was called home to Glory surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 27, 1935 to Kenneth E. Loomis and Carrie I. (Wilcox) in Hornell, NY.
He graduated from Canisteo Central School in 1953. His education continued at Indiana Wesleyan University and then on to the Nazarene Theological Seminary. After completing his studies, he went on to pastor in many churches and opened three Christian schools. Through his ministry, he was privileged to bring many people to the Lord. He also worked as a bookkeeper for many years.
On November 24,1956, he married his sweetheart Lucille M Slatt in Hornell, NY.
In addition to his wife, Merlin is survived by seven children: Valerie (Darrel Edward) Dickey, Merlin Jr., Ruth (Michael) Bundy, Joel (Tina), Timothy (Melissa), Jonathan, and Benjamin as well as many grandchildren and even more great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents, his brother Karl, and three grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 1pm - 3pm at the Salvation Army in DuBois. A "Promotion to Glory" memorial service will immediate follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following charities: DuBois Salvation Army, Daily Bread Publications, World Missionary Publishers, Gideons International or Indiana Wesleyan University.
