March 23, 1947 — February 1, 2026

Barbara Danz Kennedy, a beloved pillar of her family and a source of strength and guidance, passed away on February 1, 2026. Born on March 23, 1947, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Barbara was a luminous presence in the lives of all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her loved ones.

Described as the ultimate source of unconditional love, Barbara had an extraordinary ability to make those around her feel cherished. She made each member of her family believe they hung the stars in the sky; her unwavering support and encouragement empowered them to reach for their dreams. She was known for her wisdom and grace, qualities that defined her as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Barbara viewed everyone with her heart, offering a listening ear without judgment and celebrating their successes with boundless enthusiasm.

Her contributions extended far beyond her immediate family as a dedicated executive secretary for many years in Washington, D.C., Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Titusville, where she navigated the challenges of balancing a demanding career with the joys of family life. In addition, Barbara pursued further education at night in the 1980s while raising her three children—Bobby, Teri, and Kati—managing to shuttle them to games, help with homework, and ensure the household ran smoothly. Her immense strength and modern sensibility shaped her family’s foundation, leaving a legacy built on love and resilience.

Throughout her life, Barbara exemplified devotion, participating in marches during the civil rights movement as a teenager, demonstrating her commitment to justice and equality. Later, her role as a grandmother was marked by attending dance recitals, orchestrating bus trips to New York City, and indulging her grandchildren in cherished outings. She embraced each moment, ensuring her love and presence were felt as constant companions in their lives.

Even through her health challenges following strokes in 2021, Barbara remained a beacon of dignity and grace. Confined to her lift chair, she continued to uplift others, imparting wisdom, joy, and light to all who called. Her nightly conversations provided comfort and connection, revealing her radiant spirit even during difficult times. Her family found a moral compass in Barbara, someone they sought out during life's ups and downs, her unwavering support steering them right time and again.

Barbara, affectionately known as "Barbie," leaves behind her favorites: brother Paul Bodenhorn (Shannah); children Bobby Danz, Teri Decker (Rick), and Kati Danz; grandchildren Richard Decker, Allie Lucas, Dabney Lineberry, and Jackie Danz; great-grandchildren Carter and Ciara Rineer; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dear friends Sandy Pierce (Claude), Marsha Masonoff, and June White.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Betsy. Arrangements are entrusted to Pennsylvania Simple Cremation in Clearfield, Pennsylvania.
