Ernest R. 'Bert' Bush Sr.

Ernest R. “Bert” Bush Sr., 61, of Altoona, PA, passed away at Midtown Oaks, Altoona. He was born in Altoona, PA, to the late Clarabelle Sunderland and William Bush and is also survived by his stepfather, Gary Sunderland.

Bert was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Leeann Bush; his beloved son, James “Jibs” Bush; his brother, Ronald Bush; his granddaughter, Kira Crowley; and his cousin Karen “Casey” Farber, who was like a sister to him. He leaves behind his significant other, Mary; his brothers Bill, Bob, Donny, Shawn, and Jim; his children: Todd, Nickie, Sammy, Amber, Tressa, Ross, Tiffiney, Gary, and Adaline; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his well-loved cat, appropriately named CAT.

If you knew Bert, you know life was never boring. With a sarcastic personality and quick wit, he could make friends with anyone, swap stories that kept you laughing, and was always ready with one of his legendary “duct tape fixes.” Bert shared many crazy stories from his childhood with his best friend Dave. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and working on cars—basically anything with grease, dirt, or a good view. Bert spent much of his time at the Glendale Yearound Campground, making memories with lifelong friends he considered brothers.

He will be laid to rest with his son at the Leamersville Riverview Cemetery. While he may be gone, his stories, laughter, and stubborn resourcefulness will live on with all who knew and loved him.

When that first sip of coffee in the morning hits your tongue, think of him. When you hear the crinkle pop of a fresh bag of potato chips, think of him. When you settle in for a good horror movie, think of him. When the smell of a fresh oil change fills the air, think of him. And when you do, know that a part of him is still right there with you.
