A proud graduate of Elderton Joint High School in 1953, Frank continued his journey at Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education in 1958, followed by a Master’s degree, crafted in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin. His career began at Penn State University, where he spent an illustrious 25 years contributing to higher education, influencing countless students before venturing into his entrepreneurial spirit. Within the vibrancy of State College, he owned and operated a car wash and laundromat, a testament to his work ethic and ingenuity. Additionally, Frank left an indelible mark in the Amway business, where he achieved diamond status, achieving success that brought satisfaction and joy.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Frank embodied the spirit of community and holiday cheer. For over fifty years, he donned the crimson attire of Santa Claus, bringing joy to countless children in State College, both as a downtown icon and during Christmas Eve services at his beloved Lutheran church. His unwavering faith and religious commitment were the foundations upon which he built his life.

Frank was not only defined by his work and community service but was also a family man through and through. He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Gongloff and Christine Tate, his son, Brian Bortz, along with eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom were the shining jewels of his life. His legacy resonates deeply, illustrated by the love, laughter, and wisdom he shared across generations.

In quiet moments, he cherished walking at the mall, indulging in good books, and finding joy in the simple pleasure of family gatherings over shared meals. Frank’s personality, rich with humor and storytelling, left everyone enchanted by his vibrancy—whether through a joke, an anecdote from his past, or a sincere conversation, he had a way of making each moment memorable.

He joins the ranks of those who went before him, reunion with his late daughter, Catheryn Ann Fasnacht, and his wife, Edna Josephine Bortz, bringing warmth and solace to their family.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life at Grace Lutheran Church in State College, Pennsylvania, on April 25, 2026. The visitation will commence at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, marking the remembrance of a remarkable man whose laughter and love will echo timelessly in the hearts of those he touched.
