Robert James Scholz

Robert James Scholz, known to many as Bob, passed away on September 20, 2026, in Belleville, Pennsylvania. He was born on June 8, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and previously lived in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.

Bob attended Monsignor Bonner Catholic High School and went on to graduate from Villanova University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He later earned his MBA from Widener University. Bob spent his entire career with Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO), where he was proud of his work and brought the same steady, thoughtful approach to everything he did. He also believed in giving back to his community and served on the Middletown Township Sewer Authority for many years.

Outside of work, Bob was an avid cyclist and skier. He loved being active and enjoyed the simple things in life. More than anything, though, Bob loved his family. He and his wife, Liz, had been married since 1971, sharing more than five decades of life together. He was a devoted husband, dad, and grandfather, and those roles were the ones that mattered most to him.

Bob is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Smyth Scholz; his daughter, Heather Lutz; his granddaughter, Margaret Lutz; his sister, Susan Becker; and his brother, William Scholz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Evelyn Scholz, and his sisters, Anne Hodgson and Barbara Jamieson.

Those who knew Bob will remember his quiet strength, his loyalty, his sense of responsibility, and the way he cared for the people in his life. He will be deeply missed by his family and by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 2, at the Chapel at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 30 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342. Following the Mass, family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life at The Crown Tavern, 451 Wilmington West Chester Pike, Glen Mills, PA 19342.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob’s memory to either The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or the Alzheimer’s Association. Both causes are especially meaningful to Bob’s family. Bob lived with Parkinson’s disease and his wife, Liz, lives with Alzheimer’s disease.
