Walter Clark, 78, of Goshen, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, October 21.
Born and raised in Goshen to parents Leo and Iva Clark on November 20, 1946, Walter was one of twelve siblings and carried a deep pride in his family’s strength and resilience throughout his life. He fondly remembered his upbringing hunting, fishing, wrestling with his many siblings, and walking to school “uphill both ways.” A proud athlete, he wrestled for Clearfield High School, where he won four District Titles and one State Championship medal, and continued at Penn State University, winning the EIWA Championship in 1968. He remained a devoted fan of both the Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Walter was happiest in the great outdoors; hunting, exploring, and sharing his love of nature with those he cared for most. He never missed a Penn State football game or a major golf tournament, enjoyed a good cup of Peet’s coffee in the morning, and could fix just about anything with a bit of duct tape. Above all, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Papa Bear.” He proudly followed their athletic achievements, celebrated every milestone, shared many afternoons on the golf course, and cherished the family traditions of hunting season.
He is survived by his three children, Stefani Clark Campbell, Cristen Clark Urich (Michael), and Heather Clark; nine grandchildren, Devon Harrison, Joseph Campbell, Jesse Urich, Patrick Campbell, Madison Urich, Aidan Campbell, Savannah Olszewski, Maura Campbell, and Mitchell Campbell; and four great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters, Twila Tubbs; Kathryn Rebecca (Becky) Biondi (Daniel); Delores Hummel (Daniel); Vivian Pownell (Dalton); his sister-in-law, Dana Clark (David); and his brothers, Marvin Clark (Nancy) and Daniel Clark (Coleen).
Walter was preceded in death by his sister, Marygail Clark; his brothers, David Clark (Dana), Jack Clark (Mary), Samuel Clark, and Ralph Clark (Faye); and his brother-in-law, Gary Tubbs (Twila).
A private service will be held by the family to celebrate Walter’s life and legacy
