Disposition Options

A cremation service presents a family with many options that traditional funeral services do not. When a loved one passes, every family wants to honor their loved one in a meaningful way. When the family plans to bury the deceased, they are often limited with the types of services and memorialization options available. In contrast, a cremation service provides a family with several unique ways to memorialize a loved one.

Memorialization Options for Cremation

For instance, some families choose to have their loved one’s ashes stored in cremation urns and kept within the family’s home. In this case, the family will often purchase a cremation urn that is much more durable and aesthetically pleasing than the temporary urn the cremated remains are returned in.

Other families will find a local cemetery and care for the cremation ashes there. Most cemeteries will offer space to have the urn permanently placed in a columbarium niche or buried in a cremation plot. Some cemeteries now offer scattering gardens where a loved one’s ashes can be scattered and mixed throughout a beautiful garden.

Lastly, some families choose a different method of disposition that involves scattering ashes of their loved one. For this type of service, friends and loved ones will gather at a location that was meaningful to the deceased. Once everyone has arrived, an informal ceremony will begin where guests can participate in stories and prayers before the remains are scattered. There are several specialty scattering urns available depending on how you want to scatter the ashes. Should you choose to honor your loved one on a body of water, water scattering urns can have the remains placed in them before the urn dissolves in the water.
